What to expect at the wound specialists office

Today I will talk about what the provider should evaluate and discuss with you during your first visit at the wound clinic if you have a lower extremity wound.

If you have developed a wound on your lower extremity, it is important to know what to expect from a good wound specialist. Here are assessments that should be completed:

1. A thorough review of your health history, including any surgeries you may have had in the past

2. review your current medication

3. If you are diabetic, the control of your glucose levels should be reviewed

4. Checking your pulses and complete an ABI (ankle brachial index - basically a bloodpressure on your legs)

5. assess for changes in your skin, to include temperature

6. assess for edema (swelling) in your legs, measure your legs

7. review your food intake

8. evaluate how you walk
