Check your wound specialists credentials!

Many providers and nurses are claiming to be wound care specialists, but do they hold a certification?

Patients need to be aware of certifications in wound care. So many providers are claiming to have knowledge in wound care but never proceeded to complete any formal training.

According to WoundEducators.com there are only three organizations that offer accredited certifications in wound care - meaning the exam that a provider or nurse will take after completing a study course specialized in wound care.

Look for any of the following credentials when you seek out your wound care specialist:

CWS - Certified wound specialist

CWSP - Certified wound specialist physician

WOCN - Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse

CWOCN-AP - Wound Ostomy Continence Advanced Practice Nurse

WCC - Wound Care Cerified

AWCC - Certified Advanced Wound Care
